Welcome to the Lift One Self podcast, where we explore the power of feeling for healing. I'm your host, nat Nat, and today we're diving into something that affects every single one of us our relationship with big, dense emotions, and how our ego plays a fascinating role in this dance. Have you ever noticed how we're all walking around with these incredible defense mechanisms built right into our nervous system? Our ego acts as this vigilant guardian, always on watch, always trying to protect us. Yet here's the profound truth I've discovered Sometimes this very protection holds us back from our full potential. Most of us analyze our feelings instead of truly feeling them in our bodies, creating a disconnect between our emotions and physical sensations. When we overanalyze, we're often trying to make sense of the emotions, assigning it meaning or even controlling it. Yet feelings aren't meant to be understood first. They're meant to be felt. They reside in the body, in the tightness of your chest, the pit of your stomach or the heaviness in your shoulders. Tightness of your chest, the pit of your stomach or the heaviness in your shoulders. Think about the last time you felt completely helpless. Maybe it was during a career transition or relationship ending, or when life threw you an unexpected curveball. What was your first instinct. If you're like most of us, you probably tried to push that feeling away, analyze it to death or numb it completely, anything, but simply letting it exist. It makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
Speaker 1:From our earliest years, we've been conditioned to avoid discomfort. Don't cry, they said. Be strong, they told us, just figure it out. Yet what if feeling helpless isn't actually the enemy? What if it's simply another shade in the rich palette of the human experience? Here's what I've discovered in my own journey. When we resist uncomfortable emotions the helplessness, the fear, the uncertainty we create a double layer of suffering. There's the original emotion and then there's our resistance to it. It's like being caught in quicksand the more you struggle, the deeper we sink Our ego. Those protective mechanisms jump in like well-meaning yet overprotective parents trying to maintain our sense of being good enough. It whispers. We can't feel that. What if it means we're weak? What if it means we're failing? Before we know it, we're trapped in a cycle of resistance that not only amplifies our discomfort, yet can actually numb us to joy itself.
Speaker 1:Let me share something transformative I've learned. When we create space for difficult emotions, when we can simply acknowledge them and say hello, helplessness, I see you there, something remarkable happens. The emotion doesn't destroy us. It doesn't diminish our worth. Instead, it makes us more whole, with a W. Think of it this way Emotions are like weather patterns in our internal landscape.
Speaker 1:Just as we wouldn't scream at the rain to stop falling, well, maybe some of you guys will we don't need to fight our emotional weather. The rain will pass, the sun will return. Yet if we are constantly running for cover, we never learn to dance in the rain. You know, holding space for others while navigating my own emotional journey can be intense. That's why I'm grateful to have discovered Magic Minds Formula. Their focus blend has become part of my morning ritual, helping me stay grounded during deep emotional work without feeling scattered. And their sleep formula that's been a game changer. You know, those nights when emotions need processing, I wake up feeling genuinely restored, not groggy. I believe in these products so much that I partnered with Magic Mind to offer you the Lift One Self listeners a 45% off their Focus and Sleep Pack.
Speaker 1:Yes you heard that correctly? Four or five. So go to the show notes, click on the link and order your pack. By the way, they have a 100% money back guarantee on your first order. If you're not satisfied, no questions asked, they will refund you. You don't know what. You don't know until you try it. And I'm better off. And that's why I'm sharing it with you, because sharing is caring. Now I'd like to guide you through a brief practice.
Speaker 1:I call mindful moments to experience this firsthand. Find a comfortable position and, if it feels safe, close your eyes, place a hand on your chest and take a deep breath in through your eyes. Place a hand on your chest and take a deep breath in through your nose and release it slowly through your mouth. Notice where you feel the emotions in your body. Another deep breath in and gently release. Now continue breathing in and out through your nose, bringing your awareness to your breath.
Speaker 1:Don't try to control your breath, just be aware of its rhythm, allowing it to guide you into your body. There may be some sensations or feelings coming up, or you may be more aware of sensations or feelings in other parts of your body, and that's okay. Let them all surface. You're safe to feel You're safe, to let go. Surrender the need to control, the need to resist, and just be. Be with your breath. Drop deeper into your body. Notice where you feel this sensation in your body.
Speaker 1:Continue breathing naturally, allowing your breath to be your anchor as you breathe. Create a gentle space around any tension, feelings, sensations. You notice no need to change it, simply observe with curiosity. If memories or emotions surface, let them pass through like clouds in the sky, always returning to your breath as your anchor. Continue staying with your breath. Continue staying with your breath. Bring to mind something you're grateful for and, alongside it, something that brings sadness. Allow both to exist together, neither fighting nor fixing. This is your mental wealth, growing your capacity to hold life's complexities with grace. Take one more deep, nourishing breath. Remember emotions are weather patterns. By allowing them space, you create room for joy and growth. When you're ready, at your own time and at your own pace, gently open your eyes.
Speaker 1:Today's invitation is simple yet powerful. What emotions have you been resisting? Can you give it just a little more space to exist? Remember, every time you allow yourself to feel fully, you expand your capacity for life itself.
